Week 2 Top 25

Well, we learned a few things last weekend.  Arkansas was WAY overrated.  Perhaps Wisconsin was too, or maybe, just MAYBE the Beaver's are back.  Time will tell on that one though.  Notre Dame and UCLA both 2-0...I got money that says both finish no better than 7-5 though.  And I don't think that's just the hater part of me coming out.  And what about Nebraska?  Bounced out of the Top 25...but they'll rebound against the mighty Arkansas State...what a joke.  OK State losing to Arizona big?  Go figure.  Lets get to it...

1. Alabama - Roll Tide Roll.  Keep winning, keep the #1.

2. USC - Not overly impressive, but Barkley's TD ratio sure looks nice.

3. LSU - Tough game this week against the powerful Idaho Vandals....puhlease.

4. Oregon - Brutal home game against Tennessee Tech...WHO?

5. Florida State - Only needs half a game to put up big numbers.

6. Georgia

7. Oklahoma - Bye week...getting ready for KState

8. West Virginia - How do they match up with powerful James Madison?

9. South Carolina

10. Michigan State - Should give the Domer's their first loss...in South Bend at that.

11. Clemson - Nasty game against Furman...WTF?

12. Ohio State - Urban gots these boys playing.  They'll destroy Cal in Columbus!

13. Virginia Tech - Sorry Pitt...0-3 after this one.

14. Kansas State - Should blow the Mean Green out of the stadium.

15. Texas - Sorry Horn's.  I like Ole Miss in this one.

16. TCU

17. Florida

18. Michigan

19. Louisville

20. Tennessee

21. Stanford - Trojans coming to town...should be a long day for the Tree.

22. Notre Dame - Losing at home this weekend to Mich State.

23. UCLA - Pretty impressive start.  I look for them to go to 3-0 at home against Houston.

24. Oregon State - Bye week getting ready to play UCLA on the road.

25. BYU - This week will tell alot at Utah.

Hack-Man's Top 25 after Week 1

Sorry for the late update.  Computer problems screwed me for the last week.  Anyhow, on with it.

1. Alabama - Convincing win over an overrated Michigan team.

2. USC - Good solid offense. Maybe a little suspect on pass defense. Time will tell.

3. LSU - As expected.

4. Oregon - The new kid looked pretty good in his QB debut.

5. Florida State

6. Georgia

7. Oklahoma - Struggled against UTEP. Better step it up this week against the powerful Florida A&M.

8. Arkansas

9. West Virginia - Geno Smith is proving he's a big time stud.

10. South Carolina - Struggled a little against Vandy, but Vandy is better than they've ever been.

11. Wisconsin

12. Clemson

13. Michigan State

14. Ohio State

15. Virginia Tech

16. Oklahoma State - C'mon...ya don't need to run it up against some high school team.

17. Nebraska

18. Texas

19. TCU

20. Michigan - Better improve this week, or kiss the Top 25 goodbye for the rest of the year!

21. Kansas State

22. Florida

23. Louisville

24. Stanford

25. Tennessee

A Look at Selected Week 1 Matchups

Lets have a little fun here and take a look at a few Week 1 matchups.

Washington State at Brigham Young - Mike Leach is looking to resurrect Wazoo's pitiful program.  Sorry Mikeeee, ain't gonna happen Thursday night.  BYU is too much at home for Wazoo.  If you're betting this game casually...bet on the Cougar's to win.

Boise State at Michigan State - Did Chris Peterson find a QB that he can trust?  I look for the Spartans to eek this one out at home...if they take care of the ball.

Clemson at Auburn - One thing is for sure...the Tigers will win.  I'm calling Auburn in a slight upset.

North Texas at LSU - The Mean Green will be in this game for the first half.  Then LSU will have worn them out and have their way with them in the second half.

Hawaii at USC - No contest.  Hawaii will score early, while the Trojan defense settles in, but SC may score every possession, resulting in a blowout.

Michigan vs. Alabama (at Cowboy Stadium) - I look for the Tide's defense to control this game.  They will take away the run and try and make Denard Robinson beat them with his arm.  I don't think that will happen.  'Bama by 2 touchdowns.

Introduction and Pre-Season thoughts

Welcome to my new blog.  I will be blogging about the forthcoming college football season.  Each week, I will rate my top 25 and try to give a brief description of why I have put each team where I have.  In addition, I will also be just rambling on various things in the college football world.  Sit back, and enjoy the ride!

With that, lets get to it!

Hack-Man's Pre-Season Top 25

1. Alabama - I have to give them the benefit of the doubt.  They're the defending champs.  Lets see how they handle the opener against Michigan.

2. USC - The Trojans should have the best offense in the nation with 4th year senior starter Matt Barkley at the helm.  Injuries could haunt them, as they are not real deep due top the scholarship limitations.

3. LSU - Anyone say Honey Badger?  Frankly, I think Matthieu is overrated and losing him will not be that big of deal.  The big question is, can LSU get anything out of the passing game?

4.  Oregon - Because of the system, I'm putting them up here.  Chip Kelly will have his boys ready to play.  The real question will be is can they get good decision making out of the redshirt freshman QB, Marcus Mariota?

5. Oklahoma - This team is going to live and die by Landry Jones.  If he can be the Heisman contender many think he should be, the Sooners will be tough.

6. Georgia - I think this is Mark Richt's make or break year.  He's got a great QB, Aaron Murray, running the show.

7. Michigan - Returning 4th year starting QB Denard Robinson is looking to put himself as a Heisman Candidate.  The Wolverines have a tough opening game in Dallas against Bama.

8. Florida State - Can the Seminoles return to their past glory?

9. South Carolina - The "other" USC looks to battle for the SEC East crown.  They'll have a showdown against the other contender, Georgia, at home on October 6th.

10. Arkansas - Returning a fairly solid team that looked very good at times last year.  Will they come together under new Head Coach John L. Smith?

11. Wisconsin - Montee Ball...enough said.  Can they make a go at Michigan for the Big 10 title?

12. West Virginia -

13. Michigan State -

14. Clemson -

15. Virginia Tech

16. Ohio State - These guys are just lucky to not be on probation.

17. Oklahoma State -

18. Texas -  Mack Brown better find a consistent QB, or the 'horns could drop right out of the Top 25.

19. Nebraska -

20. TCU -

21. Stanford - The Tree look to replace a lot of talent on offense, but they were as deep as anyone last year.  But...replacing Andrew Luck ain't gonna be easy.

22. Florida -

23. Boise State - Replacing Kellen Moore...impossible.  I don't see that streak of 11 win seasons being repeated this year.

24. Kansas State -

25. Auburn -Can the War Eagles return to power?

That's it for today.  Maybe tonight, I'll preview a few week 1 matchups.
